Retraining The Auditory System (AIT- Berard Method)
Auditory retraining is a hearing enhancement training process of sensory input anomalies. It works as a sensory therapy or hearing re-education for individuals with either hyper or hypo acute hearing. An individual’s hearing may be “normal” that is free from a medically recognized impairment but this does not necessarily mean that the individual can listen effectively.
It is believed that there is a correlation between improper hearing and varios disorders. When people perceive common, everyday sounds in a distorted manner, it becomes very difficult to function. This could lead to irritability, anxiety or depression, in a mild situation, or beating of the ears and temper tantrums in more extreme situations. The primary goal of auditory retraining is to normalize the receiving of auditory stimuli and assist in remediation of auditory processing difficulties.
